The primary setting for many of the editions of Runequest. Has been lovingly assembled and accreted since 1966 (gosh! It's just a year younger than me!). Glorantha's many cultures and their viewpoints should inspire players of Sorc. Get ready to file off those serial numbers ;)

https://wellofdaliath.chaosium.com/

This is the only other RPG I can think of, other than Sorc and Runequest/Mythras, where magic is routinely used by the bulk of the population. The setting is most notable for lacking humans and having instead a set of anthropomorphic animal species. Magic is a noun + verb system similar to that of Ars Magica. The gods are very present, being visible as celestial objects in the sky, and are the source of magic. Quite an odd game and I put it forward as inspiration for other worlds in the Kaleidiscope or the realms of the Worlds Beyond.

Here's the link to the TV Tropes page for the game:

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/WorldTreeRPG

Rihaku's Original Fiction Quest Thread Multiverse

There's a certain underlying mechanical logic to the world of Sorcerously Advanced that exists in a significantly magnified form in Rihaku's quest thread multiverse. The idea that a sufficiently obsessed nutcase can become so overwhelmingly dangerous as to make numerical disadvantages in combat less meaningful or meaningless, combined with them both sharing a pervasive presence of high powered magic.

Gardens of Enoch(A nutcase wizard publically establishes a hyperviolent version of Hogwarts, causing chaos in the modern world, an event resembling this wouldn't be out of place in the Early Interregnum when fewer people understood what was happening): https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/the-gardens-of-enoch-terrascape-academy-story-only.371364/

Why did we do it?

Of course we were aware how strange it sounded, how unpleasant it might be. But you can’t grow up surrounded by stories of magic, seeing it in every movie, reading of it in every book, dreaming about it in every stolen moment: you can’t go through that and live a peaceable life afterwards, out on our completely mundane Earth. When the invitation comes - if, by miracle of impossible miracles, it comes - you have to say yes.

There was such a desperate yearning for the magical in us, a need for it to be real, that even an offer like his seemed too good to be true. Have I done regrettable things? Yes, many. But do I regret my decision to attend?

Never. There is no world in which I could have chosen otherwise.

Prelude

On December 21st, 2016, a man in a black coat stepped off of a cliffside on the New England coast. He appeared in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Waving an arm, he created a perfectly circular temperate island exactly twelve miles in diameter, and then seized control of every visual interface on the Earth’s surface. Introducing himself as Atrianome Enoch, he announced that he was conquering the world. That he intended to trample upon the sovereignty of every country, dissolve every national border, overthrow every government, and cast aside all existing systems of law to unify humankind under a single ruler. And to this end, he was establishing the Terrascape Academy of Magical Endeavor, where he would teach others to harness powers like his, and give them the opportunity to become instruments of world domination. All humans between the ages of 17 and 20 were encouraged to apply. Classes would begin on the first of the year and, to celebrate the birth of this institution, he would do humanity a favor and rid them of their capacity to destroy themselves.

The second one I'd recommend is Even Further Beyond(A Xianxia villain quest where your goal is to stop being a villain and ideally punch destiny in the face, where the conventions of genre are played for Cosmic Horror. Whoever or whatever group made the travel grid in the ancient past of the Great Basin probably had to defy fate too to make it happen, in spite of it being wielded by mortals instead of gods. Also, Zang Kong is good inspiration material for villainous Transcend your Limits 5 CV with low ratings in all the other CVs. If you read it you'll see when he comes up): https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/even-further-beyond-complete.45951/

The opening illustrates a recurring theme in Rihaku's work. Build votes and character optimization are deadly serious business.

An Age of the World draws to a close. Cataclysm and anarchy ravage its peoples. Bandits and monstrosities prowl the wilderness. The great empires of yore are decaying husks of their former glory, offering little protection at the price of ceaseless exploitation. Oppressed, benighted, savaged by tempest and claw, the masses of the world cry out for a savior.

Their cry is answered. The self-styled Divinities, secret masters of the world, send forth one of their own to be born amongst the people, to live as incarnate flesh and lead them into a new Age. Every genius shall be afforded her. Destiny shall be her perennial ally, circumstance laid prostrate at her feet. She shall tear down the moldering edifices of the past and lay them as kindling for the phoenix-flame to come. From that conflagration shall the Spirit of the World be born anew, the close of an Age and the dawn of its successor.

At all costs, she must be stopped.

—-

Balance is the watchword of the Divinities, and the appearance of balance their ultimate law. For one of their number to transgress openly upon the world, a countervailing force must be raised.

Hence your presence, child of Earth. Make no mistake: you are doomed. Though they will grant you raw power the equal of her own, they have tilted the world so thoroughly in her favor that your defeat is all but inevitable. Such is written in the air and the stars, in the seas and the fields, written on the very bones of the earth. Your life is tied now to a dying Age, and should it breathe its last your very existence is forfeit.

Consignment to oblivion is likely the kindest fate in that scenario. It is in your best interests to delay that hour for as long you can.

Willing or not, you are conscripted for this role. Soon you will be confronted with a plethora of choices; balance to your unwitting recruitment, a myriad of ways in which the power of your station can manifest itself. They hope that in your inexperience, you will destroy yourself by choosing foolishly. See now how they operate, always and forever: superficial fairness to mask the stacked deck.

Choose carefully. Choose well. For all of us that have come before.

I'm 6 chapters in. Take the ending to the Madoka Magica TV series and advance time hundreds of years. The future depicted is vigorously worldbuilt, there's a movie watched that covers 100,000 Magical Girls going incognito to a space colony to provide military assistance when aliens attack because the human army doesn't have the hardware to stand against them. Magical Girls meets Military Sci-Fi.

But the real gem here for Sorcerously Advanced players is the depiction of Mami, Kyoko, Homura, and Yuma's dynamic over the centuries, from the founding of MSY back before the world was post-scarcity to the present day. It's great help for considering how characters who lived through the entire interregnum may be.

So, this one involves a newspaper employee who gets caught up in a Cultivator sending demons to get him lunch. He ends up shanghaied as a bureaucrat(With massively generous compensation by the standards of our world though) into the Cultivation research branch of the Immortal Imperial Court of Celestial Body Seizer, the Eternal Sovereign. It's an extremely nice job by our standards. The problem? Cultivators are violent. Very, very, violent. Someone losing an arm in an argument over a vacation spot is not even commonly considered worth mentioning as a fight. And as a mortal, our protagonist is squishy. Considering losing an arm is as easily repaired as putting it back on with telekinesis in Sorcerously Advanced, there may be people in the Great Basin who take violence this lightly.

I'd recommend this quest for the sheer, absurd, scale, the power and pervasiveness of the magic, and the exotic magic items.

https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/white-collar-cultivator.44460/reader

It's a new book and pokes at industrialized magic (at least as much as the Craft Sequence). It's so new that it doesn't even have a tvtropes page (quelle horreur). But there is a decent goodreads page where the author adds a few notes.
https://www.goodreads.com/notes/37173847-foundryside/7322065-robert-bennett?ref=bsfknh
—
Overall, I liked it. I don't think it plays to the big world shaking stuff Colin is mucking about with, but it's still pretty good. The bits with gravity could be used for warfare or industry. And scriving to objects could give some insights into what alchemy does to objects.

It can also give you some ideas for what you can do with magic with an admixture of science (the canal building and similar would be explicitly projects/rituals under the rules) also what you can get up to with silicon, aluminum and oxygen and lots of power and magical direction is amusing (sapphire bathtubs anyone?). Or the Commonweal's tubes and the various red and black shots.

Anyway, food for thought.

So the setting of Numenera is known as the 9th world. The 8 civilizations that came before left large amounts of detritus and artifacts. These artifacts are weird and basically Clarketech. So if people need something for inspiration, why not reskin the Clarketech to be actual magic? The game is meant to have some degree of a discovery element to it and the succession of world's seems like it fits with the Brahma cycle angle somewhat.

http://numenera.com/what-is-numenera/

There are three works of this franchise I'd say are best known. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's, and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers. But the reason I'm actually putting this down as inspirational material? The TSAB(Time Space Administration Bureau). Outside of conventional Earth and under their sway, it's basically a sci-fi setting where the Phlebotinum is magic. Mid-Childa(The World/Magical Society of the TSAB's origin), was built in the ashes of two other Magical Civilizations that destroyed themselves. Al-Hazred and Belka. And they left a lot of artifacts/ancient weapons that can be threats to the general population behind. A sizable chunk of the Bureau's remit involves destroying these artifacts or ensuring they are properly contained. The series uses this as a backdrop for aerial wizard fights with highly destructive but non-lethal lasers. Also lots of making friends after such fights. It seems like could be some thematic overlap between the TSAB and the Archive.

The magic(for those with a linker core, which is rare on Earth but not the case elsewhere), is highly mental math oriented. The equivalent to a wizards staff is basically a telepathic calculator/computer.

Forge of Destiny, while not a setting that bestows the talent for Cultivation on everyone, bestows it on enough people that there are armies of Cultivators and the strength of ones Cultivation has political significance. The focus of the setting is a boarding school for Cultivators, so you are very thoroughly immersed in the effects cultivation has on society. The strongest Cultivators can threaten armies of weaker cultivators singlehandedly, though armies can turn the tide in battles between high level Cultivators.

Cultivation is a system of self augmentation via drugs made with exotic materials and meditation that extends the lifespan beyond that of mortals. I could easily see a more constrained form of it existing somewhere in the Great Basin.

Unfortunately I don't think I have the karma to link it but you can find it on the sufficient velocity message boards.

Edit: Let's see if I can link it now that I've got karma(https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/forge-of-destiny-xianxia-quest.35583/)
