Tiny fragile machines, powered by your bodily energy, are placed inside you at various vital points. Their only purpose is to send a single-bit message back in time, confirming that they're functioning. If your body receives damage, it will break or render powerless every machine near the point where the damage occurred, cutting off the signal and telling your past self about the damage that will occur. If the damage prediction system in your arm stops pinging in ten minutes, something will happen to your arm in ten minutes.
Not everyone with Chronotech uses a damage prediction system. Most people find it easier just to tell their past self about the injuries normally. But for people who often get hurt in interesting ways, the simplicity of the system conserves bandwidth and makes things harder for people who intend to suborn your self-warning system somehow. Even an enemy who mesh-hacks you, or kills you and extracts the Chronotech transmitters from your corpse, can't do much to mess with a damage prediction system.
