The name "Threadless Series Serial 44174" is the "name" given to the person who has since been nicknamed Cede Malis. He was on one of the Regal Ecstasy worlds that was liberated by the Replicants, and has since become a peripheral part of Replicant society. He's been a Helot from birth, and from the age of 8 was owned by Demiurge Devil's Food. He's emotionally decrepit and confusedly certain about his place in reality, as is common to all free Helots. However, he's less free than he should be.
He was liberated by Trimagestus, a Replicant soldier-army and nanotechnician who freed Cede's world by means of an nanotech lens-rewrite pathogen that erased the slave lenses of all the Helots on the world. He then deployed a simple Metatech revolution meme, invaded, and put antimatter bullets into the back of every Demiurge head he could find. He also systematically removed all the remaining slave lenses from every Helot he could find. The Replicants accepted the majority of the refugee Helots from that world, and have since been profiting greatly from the cognitive labor of the grateful Helots. Malis himself was one of the first freed Helots, and became a personal seneschal to Trimagestus. Romance quickly followed.
This worked well for a few years, but then Malis woke up in a cold swet one night. Three of Trimagestus were present at the time, but he managed to convince them that it was "just a nightmare". Indeed, it was, but the nightmare was fundamental. He dreamed that he was once again under a slave lens to Devil's Food, and that he began systematically killing Trimagestus. He realized that as it stood now, it would be far to easy to retask his devotion to Trimagestus to devotion to anybody else. The accumulated horror of repeated emotional maiming at the hands of an all-powerful figure from the age of 8 reared its head in his life, and he resolved to stop it at all costs.
So he programmed a slave lens that would imprint its bearer on Trimagestus. And then he plugged it into himself.
Now, there's few forces in the universe that can force him to betray Trimagestus. He'll be whatever he needs to be for his many-personed lover, and do whatever it takes to stay that way. Nothing in the world will keep him from giving Trimagestus whatever he needs. And so long as Trimagestus never finds out, they can both be happy.
Age: Approx. 60-70, appearance in terms of modern biology would probably be about half that
Benefit (from the Regal Ecstasy): Two free Twists towards Plot Immunity against any Romance, Empathy, or Magnetism Story Trigger. Emotional numbness is the rule of law for any Ecstatic - too much is not enough.
Core Values:
Ecstasy - 4 (inherited from the Regal Ecstasy, it represents the interpretation of enlightenment not as refinement but as personal debasement)
Solipsism - 3 (inherited from the Regal Ecstasy)
Subservience - 8 (lensed into Trimagestus, but even without a Lens it would be dedicated to him)
Gratitude - 6 (common among freed Helots, this is a need to pay back for any kindness or mercy shown)
Capabilities:
Bio: 3
Cog: 9
Meta: 3
Nano: 2
String: 2
Themes:
Plot Immunity (Xanatos speed chess): 2
Intrigue (Reliable information): 3
Empathy (Bad news): 0
Magnetism (Injured puppy): 1
Comprehension (Order out of chaos): 1
Romance (Fidelity): 2
Professions (note that many of these are quite high given his low Bio - bear in mind that his Cognitech means he can learn extremely quickly):
Cognitech Engineer 5
Cognitech Researcher 4
Crisis Control 3
Locality (Regal Ecstasy) 5
Locality (Society of Eternal Life) 3
Spy 3
On-Board or Carried Technologies:
Mesh
Reflexive Personna Lens (alters his mood to compliment his master's)
Slave Lens (to Trimagestus)
Lens Mask (specialized Lens that prevents anybody doing a Congitech search to be able to differentiate his Lenses from "natural" parts of his own cognition)
Competence Lenses (being a Lens Tuner, he has access to different lenses when he needs them, either by paying for them or by quietly "borrowing" company lenses)
Current Occupation: Lens Desinger/Tuner (when he was a slave Helot, he was a disaster response drone - he's purposefully allowed much of that Profession to decay in an effort to "forget" portions of his old life)
Personality: "Slavish" is Malis' middle name (or what did you think "Series Serial" meant?). He's utterly devoted, taking clean stims to keep himself awake doing his job half the time and (subtly) attending to Trimagestus' every need the other half of the time, and taking catnaps here and there. Periodically, he biologically collapses. This leads to Trimagestus scolding him and massive medical procedures being done to him to reconstruct his health and (slowly and, as far as Trimagestus believes, secretly) extend his life by nickels and dimes. Trimagestus has been trying to "silently and subtly" convince Malis to extend his life, and perhaps to become immortal. Malis has been purposefully allowing Trimagestus to think he's unaware of this, and has been purposefully delaying responding to what is, in essence, a Metatech attack. This is not because he's resisting it, but rather he's trying to make sure that Trimagestus gets a victory out of it, in order to boost his ego.
That's just the kind of person Malis is.
