Pantropy is the colonization of space, in which rather than terraforming other planets or building space habitats suitable for human habitation, humans are modified (via genetic engineering, nanotechnology or cybernetics) to be able to thrive in the existing environment. The Pantropists can be found among Stardwellers, Rationalists, Mechanists and Replicants. They also share aspects of the Hyperevolute and Darwinist societies. They believe that humanity should expand into a wide variety of ecological niches, ideally requiring a minimum of infrastructure and support in those environments. To that end they concentrate on what most humans would consider hostile environments: hot house worlds, high gravity, vacuum, hot rockballs, ice worlds, toxic atmospheres, etc.
To do this, they have two branches. Beta, concentrates on biotechnological adaptations. Gamma concentrates on cybernetic adaptations to the environment. They have a friendly rivalry and frequently collaborate on projects.
Benefit: Pantropists have minimum Biotech or Stringtech scores of 5, which can raise them above their civilization’s maximum if necessary, and their Biotech is considered one point higher for the purpose of resisting environmental factors. They can exceed their civilization’s maximum Biotech or Stringtech by one without suffering Import reduction.
Core Value: Pantropy - to spread humanity far and wide and into environments not previously considered.
