The 2:1 ratio sounds like a good guideline. I'd like to see how it works in play, but I think it would probably be fine. The real question in my mind is whether you can take Reserve damage on the other Profession, because that has the potential to make you much more durable in a conflict.

Yeah, I'd say that there ought to be some synergy.

Let's see how Jin would do with this…
Capabilities:

Bio

Cog

Meta

Nano

String

5

5

4

6

5

Professions:
Criminal 5 (26.25)
Locality (Disciples) 5 (free)
Locality (Stardwellers) 4 (free)
Locality (Independents) 2 (free)
Locality (Spacers) 2 (free)
Religious (DotV) 3 (7.5)
Spacer 4 (15)
Spy 2 (3)
Soldier (Martial Artist) 5 (26.25)
Athlete (Null Ball) 4 (15)
Athlete (Null Boxing) 2 (3)
Artist (Martial Artist) 5 (26.25)
Crisis Control 3 (7.5)

So, if our Disciple ninja is trying to use his Spy profession with Criminal (say to set up a sting on a group dealing with hacked replicators) under the draft, he can't. Maybe if the second profession has at least half the value, rounded down, it could work.

There's some overlap in Professions, and it'd be nice to have a model in the rules for such cases. For example, there's a nice amount of overlap between spy skills and criminal skills; they involve many of the same things.

My proposal for handling it is simple, but I'd like critiques, etc: You can spend reserves from the secondary profession on rolls using the primary at a 2:1 rate, so long as the secondary skill is at least half the value of the first.

Although I suppose this is really just a way to use secondary skills in a situation…
For instance, if you were trying to hack a modern day computer, you'd use Programmer and Cognitech, right? But if you had infiltrated the computer with nanites, you can use them to perform some hardware bypasses; so you get to use "Nanotech Engineering" as a secondary to boost your available reserve.

Thoughts?
