I’m writing a one-shot, and I needed to determine Logician social stratification for it. Anyway, I figured I’d share my system. If anyone likes the system, feel free to use it.
Assumptions:
I’m assuming the Logicians control roughly 40 world-equivalents (where a continent of a major world, and the entire solar system sans valuable world, both count as “one world”). I’m also assuming that they have about 2.5 billion people on each “world”, for a total population of around 123 billion.
I read somewhere that humans can only handle organizations about 5 levels deep without catastrophic inefficiency. I’m assuming that the Logicians are rational enough to avoid the inefficiency, and would rather have more layers to their hierarchy so as to subdivide peers for clarity of authority.
| Title | Rules What? | #/prev. rank | # total |
| Emper(or/ess) | Rationalist League | N/A | 1 |
| King/Queen | Kingdom: 1-5 solar systems | 5 | 5 |
| Prince(ess) | Principality: (1 "world") | ~8 | ~40 |
| Du(ke/chess) | Duchy (continent, asteroid belt, or outer system) | ~5 | ~200 |
| Count(ess) | County (about the size of India or China) | ~5 | ~200 |
| Marquis | March (state or territory) | ~8 | ~1 600 |
| Baron(ess) | Barony (division, county in the US) | ~12 | ~150 000 |
| Baronet | City or township | ~12 | ~1 800 000 |
| Knight | Corporation or Civil Branch (CEO) | ~13 | ~24 000 000 |
| Squire | Corporation or Civil Subdivision (Head of Marketing) | ~8 | ~190 000 000 |
| Gentry | Project Lead | ~13 | ~2 500 000 000 |
| Citizen | Any skilled job | ~8 | ~20 000 000 000 |
| Serf | Any unskilled job | ~5 | ~100 000 000 000 |
Assuming that a crowd of ~200 people can get easy audience with someone, and a those in a group of ~10 000 can occationally get an audience:
- At Prince and above, anyone 3 levels down can get an easy audience, anyone 5 levels down can get a rare audience.
- At Duke and below, anyone 2 levels down can get an easy audience, anyone 4 levels down can get a rare one.
So, if a Serf needs to convey information to the Emperor, the path (easy audience) would be:
- Serf->Gentry->Knight->Baron->Count->King->Emperor.
If the information was so stunning as to make rare audiences commonplace, the path becomes:
- Serf->Knight->Count->Emperor.
